(procycling.no): Mandagens etappe i Tour de Pologne fikk et tragisk utfall. Den unge belgieren Bjorg Lambrecht hos Lotto Soudal krasjet stygt underveis på den tredje etappen.
22-årigen ble fraktet i ambulanse til sykehus i Rybnik og hasteoperert ved ankomst. Den Gent-fødte rytterens liv sto tragisk nok ikke til å redde. Laget hans Lotto Soudal meldte mandag kveld at den talentfulle rytteren var gått bort.

Lambrecht var regnet som et stort talent og hadde sine utviklingsår for Lotto Soudal U23 før han meldte overgang til profflaget i 2018.
Lambrecht hadde en rekke gode resultater som U23-rytter. Han ble belgisk mester i 2015 og vant Ronde de l’Isard året etter. Den klatresterke Lambrecht vant U23-utgaven av Liege-Bastogne-Liege, og har stått på podie i de viktige etapperittene Tour de l’Avenir og Giro della Valle d’Aosta.
I 2018 tok han sølv under VM i Østerrike på fellesstarten i U23-klassen. I sitt andre år som proff har Lambrecht som en av lagkameratene til nordmannen Carl Fredrik Hagen fortsatt den gode utviklingen denne sesongen, med femteplass Brabantse Pijl, sjetteplass i Amstel Gold Race og fjerdeplass i La Fleche Wallonne. Lotto Soudal-rytteren vant også den hvite trøyen under Criterium du Dauphiné.

Etter at Lotto Soudal overbrakte den tragiske nyheten om Lambrechts bortgang, har kondolansemeldingene strømmet inn fra lagkamerater, rivaliserende lag, konkurrerende ryttere på sosiale medier.
– Jeg er knust etter å ha tapt min flotte venn og lagkamerat. Bjorg var en utrolig flott person og et eksepsjonelt talent. I løpet av de få månedene vi tilbrakte sammen utviklet vi et unikt vennskap, skriver Lotto Soudal-rytter Carl Fredrik Hagen – som for tiden sykler Polen rundt.
