Degenkolb-initativ redder juniorenes Paris-Roubaix

(procycling.no): Juniorutgaven av Paris-Roubaix sto i fare for å ikke bli arrangert, ettersom det manglet hele 10 000 euro i sponsorpenger.

Da John Degenkolb (Trek-Segafredo) fikk høre det, tok han affære. Han startet en innsamlingsaksjon på gofundme.com, la inn en donasjon selv, og oppfordret folk via sosiale medier til å bidra.

Tyskeren vant rittet som 26-åring i 2015. Under fjorårets Tour de France ble det emosjonelt da han vant Roubaix-etappen etter å ha spurtslått Greg Van Avermaet og Jasper Stuyven.

Degenkolbs mål om 10 000 euro er allerede nådd, og beløpet skal gå uavkortet til rittarrangøren.

Det eventuelle overskuddet går til Amis de Paris-Roubaix, en organisasjon av frivillige som vedlikeholder ruten for å ha den så lik som den var ved starten i 1896 som mulig.

Tyskeren er godt i gang med sesongen og sykler for øyeblikket Tour de la Provence i Frankrike. Åttendeplassen fra Trofeo Palma er hans hittil beste resultat.

LINK IN BIO. The U19 race at Paris Roubaix, the Paris Roubaix Juniors, is about to end due to a 10.000 Euro lack of Sponsorship. A message that hit me like a bomb. Immediately it was clear to me that I wanted to do everything possible to prevent this worst case. Not only because I have a very special relationship to Paris – Roubaix. A race that fascinated me already as I was a child and directly infected me with the fascination for cycling. But also because of its importance for the support of young talents. In France, in Germany, worldwide. If cycling should have a sustainable future we need such races for the young guns – hardly anyone knows that better than me. I also benefited greatly from organizers and sponsors who allowed me to pursue my passion and career. That’s why I started #degejuniors and #degebambini years ago: to support the kids and juniors. And that’s why I decided to launch a fundraiser to organize the missing money for the Paris-Roubaix Juniors. Of course, I am personally involved with a donation – but I would be pleased, if there will be as many as possible out there who share my point of view and help protecting this race. As a small incentive, there will be a Dege Special Roubaix T-shirt . Anyone who donates at least 25 € and more gets one, promise! I’m sure – you and me together will save the race. But even in the unlikely event that some Euros are missing, the race is definitely saved . That’s what I have guaranteed to the race organizers and race main responsible Mr John Malaise. In that case I will pack the missing amount on top in addition to my already planned donation. And I’ll give another guarantee: every penny of profit from the action goes directly into the promotion of the U19 race of Paris – Roubaix and – even a possible «surplus» stays in Roubaix. The „extra“ money will go to the „Amis de Paris Roubaix“ an association of volunteers that keeps and restaures the racetrack as original as in 1896 and whose ambassador I am since last year.
